Hope Solo back in goal for United States

GUANGZHOU, China, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Hope Solo returned to the U.S. soccer squad goal Wednesday and the team posted a 4-0 victory over Canada in the Four Nationals Tournament in China.

Wednesday's game marked the first play for Solo since she was surprisingly held out of the World Cup semifinal, a game the United States lost and a decision that appeared to cost Coach Greg Ryan his job.

Solo faced just two shots Wednesday and really wasn't tested as the United States began play under new Coach Pia Sundhage. Amy Rodriguez, in her first international game, and Lindsay Tarpley each scored two goals in the second half for the United States.

The tournament's other game Wednesday saw China defeat Finland, 2-0.

The U.S. team is scheduled to play Finland on Friday while Canada is to meet China.
