Nuggets forward Nene has tumor removed

DENVER, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- The Denver Nuggets reported Tuesday that forward Nene had surgery Monday to remove a testicular tumor.

"A right testicular mass was found incidentally and it was managed surgically," said Dr. Fernando J. Kim, chief of urology at Denver Health Medical Center. "Nene is recovering well and in good condition."

Kim said the results of a biopsy to determine the presence of cancer were pending.

Nene announced Jan. 11he was taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team. The Brazilian is averaging 6.4 points and 6.4 rebounds in just 12 games played this season. He has missed action this season, his sixth in the NBA, with a wrist injury.
