Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

WASHINGTON, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- The Washington Capitals said Tuesday center Michael Nylander will be sidelined the remainder of the season following rotator cuff surgery.
The recovery period is expected to be three to six months.
Nylander, 35, signed a four-year contract in the offseason. He had 11 goals and 26 assists in 40 games. His 37 points is second on the team behind Alex Ovechkin, but he has been playing with a sore left shoulder in recent weeks.
Nylander posted career highs in goals (26), assists (57) and points (83) in 79 games for the New York Rangers last season. The 14-year veteran has 200 goals and 446 assists for Hartford, Calgary, Tampa Bay, Chicago, Washington, Boston and New York.
