LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Seven applicants, including Chicago, sent application files to the International Olympic Committee, a step to be considered to be the host of the 2016 Olympics.
Applicant cities were given until midnight Monday to submit the application files. All seven of the cities vying for the 2016 Summer Games made the deadline, the IOC said.
Baku, Azerbaijan; Chicago; Doha, Qatar; Madrid; Prague, Czech Republic; Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo have expressed interest in being the host for the Games.
The application files were to contain answers to 25 questions posed and guarantees requested by the IOC to give Olympic officials an overview of each city's project.
An IOC working group was given the task to study the applications. The IOC is to announce in June which cities would be accepted as candidates for the 2016 Olympics. The election to award those Games is set for Oct. 2, 2009.
