NHL: Colorado 5, Carolina 4

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Marek Svatos scored two goals in the third period Saturday to give the Colorado Avalanche a 5-4 victory over Carolina.

The Avalanche haven't suffered a loss to the Carolina/Hartford franchise since Feb. 9, 1996, over a span of 15 games (12 wins and three ties).

Paul Stastny snapped a four-game pointless streak with a goal and an assist for Colorado. Cody McLeod also had a goal and an assist and Tyler Arnason two assists. Jose Theodore had 30 saves.

Keith Aucoin had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes. Erik Cole, Chad LaRose and Cory Stillman also scored for Carolina and Cam Ward allowed five on 29 shots.
