ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The Texas Rangers announced Friday they've signed 37-year-old two-time all-star reliever Eddie Guardado to a one-year contract.

Guardado was with the Cincinnati Reds last season but was recovering from elbow surgery and pitched in only 15 games.

The left-hander was an American League all-star in 2002 and 2003 with the Minnesota Twins, where he was known as "Everyday Eddie."

Guardado has appeared in 796 games. His 183 saves rank him 11th among active major-leaguers.
