WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Donald Brashear and David Steckel scored third-period goals for the Washington Capitals Wednesday, giving them a 2-1 victory over Colorado.
Brashear tapped in a rebound early in the third. Steckel fired a shot that ricocheted off an Avalanche player's stick into the net with just under four minutes to play.
Marek Svatos scored Colorado's goal just over a half minute later.
Olaf Kolzig had 18 stops for Washington, Jose Theodore 21 for Colorado.
