Bondarenko bounced from Hobart tournament

HOBART, Australia, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Alona Bondarenko was ousted in straight sets during second-round action at the $170,000 Moorilla Hobart International tennis tournament in Australia.

Bondarenko was defeated 6-3, 6-3 by Eleni Daniilidou, who used the victory to earn a quarterfinal match against wild-card entry Casey Dellacqua. Dellacqua was a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 second-round winner over Anna Lapushchenkova.

Second-seeded Vera Zvonareva also claimed a quarterfinal berth, defeating Ioana Raluca Olaru 6-3, 6-2. Zvonareva next goes against Elena Vesnina, who advanced out of the second round with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nuria Llagostera Vives.

Sixth-seeded Sania Mirza was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Alla Kudryavtseva and will next meet Flavia Pennetta, who advanced when Jelena Dokic retired with an ankle injury, in Wednesday's quarterfinals.

The fourth quarterfinal pits Edina Gallovits against Ashley Harkleroad. Gallovits topped Olga Govortsova 6-3, 6-2 and Harkleroad survived a tough 7-6 (11-9), 2-6, 6-1 match with Meilen Tu.
