Rams fire offensive coordinator

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Rams fired offensive coordinator Greg Olson, about a week after the NFL team finished near the bottom of the league in offensive production.

Olson and offensive line coach Paul Boudreau were informed last week they wouldn't be retained for 2008, the Rams said in a release. Both had been with the team since head coach Scott Linehan took over the Rams in January 2006.

In 2006, St. Louis was sixth in the NFL with 360.4 yards a game but in 2007, with injuries limiting playing time of running back Steven Jackson and quarterback Marc Bulger, offensive production dropped off. The team averaged 16.4 points a game in 2007, about 7 points a game fewer than in 2006.

The Rams wound up 3-13 on the season; only the 1-15 Miami Dolphins had a worse record. Only four teams scored fewer points than St. Louis in 2007.
