NHL: Edmonton 3, N.Y. Rangers 2 (SO)

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Sam Gagner's goal in the first round of the shootout Saturday gave the Edmonton Oilers a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers.

After Gagner beat Henrik Lundqvist, Mathieu Garon stopped Scott Gomez and Jaromir Jagr to put the game in the win column for the Oilers.

Shawn Horcoff had a goal and an assist and Jarret Stoll scored for Edmonton, which has won two of its last three games. Garon posted 29 saves.

Dan Girardi and Chris Drury scored and Lundqvist stopped 21 shots for the Rangers, who lost their third straight road game.
