NHL: Colorado 2, N.Y. Islanders 1 (OT)

DENVER, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Marek Svatos' goal with 2:55 left in overtime made the difference Saturday night, giving the Colorado Avalanche a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders.

Jordan Leopold scored and Jose Theodore stopped 23 shots for the Avalanche, who won for the first time in five games.

Tim Jackman scored and Rick DiPietro let in two goals on 39 shots for the Islanders, who lost their second straight overtime decision.

Jackman opened the scoring for the Islanders, catching the Avalanche napping during a line change at 3:18 of the first period.

Colorado got the equalizer at 19:28 of the second when the puck caromed off Leopold into the net.
