KAPALUA, Hawaii, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Daniel Chopra made a birdie on the fourth hole of a playoff Sunday to beat Steve Stricker at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii.

Stricker shot a 64 Sunday and Chopra shot 66 to finish regulation tied at 18-under 274 -- one stroke ahead of Stephen Ames (66) and two shots better than Mike Weir, who led after the second and third rounds but managed only a 70 Sunday.

Chopra led by three after 13 holes Sunday, but Stricker put on a charge -- capped by a birdie at 18 to set up the playoff.

The title is Chopra's second on the PGA tour.
