ST. LOUIS, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Manny Legace stopped 27 shots Saturday to post his third shutout of the season and lead the St. Louis Blues to a 1-0 win over Carolina.

Lee Stempniak scored and Ryan Johnson and Jay McKee had assists for the Blues, who won for the second time in three games.

Michael Leighton allowed one goal on 19 shots for the Hurricanes, who lost for the fourth time in their last five games.

After Leighton turned away a shot by Johnson, McKee picked it up behind the net and fed it to Stempniak for the game's only goal at 12:49 of the first period.
