MIAMI, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Kansas turned three interceptions into 17 points Thursday and Todd Reesing produced two scores in the Jayhawks' 24-21 Orange Bowl win over Virginia Tech.

The entertaining game capped a sensational season for Kansas, a traditional underdog in the Big 12 Conference but now the owner of a 12-1 record.

Aqib Talib picked off a pass by Virginia Tech's Sean Glennon and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown for the game's first score with 5:26 left in the opening period, and Kansas never trailed.

A 32-yard Kansas field goal by Scott Webb in the second period and Reesing's 2-yard scoring run with 4:03 to play in the game were also set up by interceptions. Reesing's run gave the Jayhawks a 10-point lead, after which Virginia Tech scored on a 21-yard throw from Glennon to Justin Harper with three minutes to go.

Kansas recovered the onside kick and was able to run out the clock.

The Hokies (11-3) narrowed the deficit to 17-14 on an 86-yard punt return by Justin Harper with 3:14 to go in the third period.

Reesing was 21 of 38 passing for 271 yards.
