Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHICAGO, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox announced a trade Thursday that gave them switch-hitting outfielder Nick Swisher and sent three minor leaguers to Oakland.
The 27-year-old Swisher batted .262 with 22 home runs for the Athletics in 2007. He has hit more than 20 homers in three consecutive seasons.
Oakland received minor-league pitchers Fautino De Los Santos and Gio Gonzalez and outfielder Ryan Sweeney.
"Nick is a quality switch-hitter who consistently gets on base, hits for power and drives in runs," White Sox General Manager Ken Williams said. "He's a great addition to our team and clubhouse."
