Report: Warren Sapp retires from NFL

WALNUT CREEK , Calif., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Oakland Raiders' tackle Warren Sapp, a seven-time Pro Bowler who has been considered one of the NFL's elite players, is retiring, it was reported Thursday.

The Contra Costa (Calif.) Times said Sapp told the Raiders' managing general partner, Al Davis: "I'm done."

The 35-year-old defensive star said he told Davis of his retirement plans by telephone.

All of Sapp's Pro Bowl appearances were as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He joined the Raiders in 2004.

Sapp finished with 96 1/2 sacks in his 13-year NFL career.
