NHL: Pittsburgh 6, Toronto 2

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- The first hat trick in Evgeni Malkin's career Thursday lifted the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-2 win over Toronto.

The Penguins, coming off a shootout victory in the outdoor spectacle against Buffalo New Year's Day, also got a goal and an assist from Petr Sykora and two assists from Sidney Crosby. Ty Conklin made 33 saves.

Pittsburgh has won five straight.

Scott Clemmensen allowed all six goals on 24 shots in the Maple Leafs fourth loss in five games.

Pittsburgh had only a 2-1 lead early in the third period before producing three goals in a span of 48 seconds.

Tyler Kennedy scored on his own rebound, Malkin redirected a pass from Crosby into the net and Sykora grabbed a loose puck and poked it past Clemmensen.

This was the last game of the season between the teams. They split their four meetings.
