Zvonareva, Kirilenko move to ASB quarters

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Top seeds Vera Zvonareva and Maria Kirilenko collected second-round victories Wednesday at the ASB Classic tennis tournament in New Zealand.

Zvonareva, seeded No. 1, dispatched Sofia Arvidsson, 6-2, 6-3, and Kirilenko stopped Klara Zakopalova, 6-4, 6-1.

New Zealand wild-card entry Marina Erakovic topped Ashley Harkleroad, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5, and earned a third-round match with Zvonareva, while Kirilenko is paired against sixth-seeded Tamira Paszek, who defeated Camille Pin, 6-2, 6-3, in a second-round match, in the tournament quarterfinals.

No. 3-seeded Katarina Srebotnik routed Yvonne Meusburger, 6-0, 6-1, and advanced to a match against Aravane Rezai, who upended seventh-seeded Eleni Daniilidou, 7-5, 6-4, on Wednesday.

Lindsey Davenport, unseeded this week, was another upset winner, taking out fifth-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues. Davenport is to go against unseeded Sara Errani in Thursday's quarterfinals. Errani beat Pauline Parmentier, 6-1, 6-2, in second-round play.

The ASB Classic semifinals are scheduled for Friday and the finals are set for Saturday.
