Utah trades Giricek to Philadelphia

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- The Utah Jazz Saturday dealt disgruntled guard Gordan Giricek and a first-round draft pick to Philadelphia for long-range shooting guard Kyle Korver.

The 30-year-old Giricek worked his way into the doghouse of Utah Coach Jerry Sloan when he complained about his lack of playing time.

He had averaged a career-low 4.3 points in 22 games and got involved in a heated shouting match with Sloan after being benched in a game at Charlotte Dec. 19.

"We are excited about acquiring a player of Gordan's ability, as well as an additional asset in the form of a first-round draft pick," said Philadelphia President and General Manager Ed Stefanski. "This move will provide us with increased salary cap flexibility this off-season and also allows us to continue our evaluation and development of the young talent we have on this team."

Korver has averaged 10 points and 2.9 rebounds in 25 games and has shot 41 percent on three-pointers in his career.
