COL BKB: Winthrop 76, Miami-Fla. 70

SUNRISE, Fla., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Chris Gaynor scored 21 points Saturday when Winthrop dealt No. 19 Miami its first loss of the season 76-70 in the Orange Bowl Classic.

Taj McCullough added 19 points, Michael Jenkins 16 and Antwon Harris 12 for the Winthrop Eagles (7-5), who trailed by as much as 11 early in the second half.

Jack McClinton scored a season-high 30 points for the Hurricanes (12-1). Anthony King added 16 points and James Dews 12 for Miami.

McClinton scored the first six points of the second half to build Miami's lead to 38-27. But the Eagles forced five turnovers during a 14-0 stretch to take a 42-20 lead with 13 minutes remaining.

The Hurricanes got within 73-67 with less than a minute to play, but the Eagles held on for the win.
