NFL Football Kansas City Chiefs vs Indianapolis Colts

INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- The Indianapolis Colts reportedly signed strong safety Bob Sanders to a five-year, $37.5 million contract extension Friday.

The deal includes close to $20 million in guaranteed money and will make Sanders the highest-paid safety in NFL history, The Indianapolis Star said.

Without a new contract, Sanders would have become a free agent at the conclusion of this season, his fourth in the NFL.

Sanders' new deal would surpass the $33 million, five-year contract Pittsburgh's Troy Polamalu signed last summer.
