NHL: N.Y. Rangers 4, Carolina 2

NEW YORK, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Jaromir Jagr scored twice Wednesday, including one of three goals in the third period, when the New York Rangers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2.

Jagr's eighth goal this season gave New York a 1-0 lead at 2:28 of the first period and his ninth, coming at 9:55 of the third, capped the night's scoring.

New York's other goals were scored by Chris Drury (power play) and Daniel Girardi.

At 7:06, Girardi's sixth broke a 2-2 and put New York on top for good.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 20 of 22 shots for the Rangers, who ended a three-game losing streak.

Carolina's goals were scored by Scott Walker (short-handed) and Eric Staal (power play), both in the second, giving Carolina a 2-1 lead.

Cam Ward was beaten four times on 35 shots for the Hurricanes, who have lost two of three.

On the power play in a penalty-filled contest, New York converted one of seven opportunities and Carolina went one of six.
