NHL: St. Louis 3, Detroit 2

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Lee Stempniak scored a power-play goal with 5:58 remaining in the third period Thursday, giving St. Louis a 3-2 win over Detroit.

The Blues rallied from a goal down in the final period to hand the Red Wings only their second loss in 12 games. Detroit still leads the second-place Blues in the Central Division by 17 points.

Brad Boyes gave St. Louis the lead in the first period with his 20th goal of the season, but Valtteri Filppula and Mikael Samuelsson scored 30 seconds apart midway through the second to put the Red Wings in front.

Keith Tkachuk tied it 4:22 into the third, also scoring on the power play.

Paul Kariya had two assists for the Blues and Manny Legace made 34 saves. Chris Osgood took the loss, stopping 21 shots.
