TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Eleven Florida State football players who have starting experience face suspension because of academic misconduct, the Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat reported.

Those players represent about half of the number of players expected to be left off the Seminoles' Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl roster because of the scandal. The newspaper, citing unnamed sources, said 23 players have been implicated in the case involving cheating on an online test.

Florida State, citing privacy laws, hasn't named the players.

"Some of our players will not travel with us to the bowl game," Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden said Tuesday. "We have some players not traveling for one reason and some for another, including those who are ineligible for the bowl because of academic issues."

The NCAA has sent investigators to Tallahassee and the school has sent the association a list of players declared ineligible, the Democrat said.

Players involved may practice with the Seminoles but won't travel to Memphis for the Dec. 31 bowl game against Kentucky. Underclassmen could be suspended for some games next season, with the NCAA deciding the extent of the penalties.
