MANCHESTER, England, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A 26-year-old woman says she was sexually assaulted early Tuesday during a Manchester United team Christmas Party.
Greater Manchester Police said the case is under investigation. The Greater St. John Street Hotel remained closed as officers searched for evidence, The Daily Mail reported.
Players had reportedly invited a number of women to the party at an expensive boutique hotel in Manchester. WAGS or players' wives and girlfriends were not allowed to attend.
The newspaper reported that the team's management reluctantly agreed to the party and warned players to be on their best behavior. At least some of the players visited a lap-dancing club during the party but left after they were warned a photographer was there.
The party reportedly featured a lot of drinking and a cross-dressing act.
"A lot of the players were really letting their hair down and really enjoying themselves in a big way," one guest told The Daily Mail. "Lots of drink was flowing and there were a lot of the girls there simply trying to bag a footballer for the night. It was all very very sleazy."
