LOUISVILLE, Ky., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Star running back Anthony Allen has been released from his scholarship at Louisville and will transfer to another school

The Courier Journal newspaper reported Friday the 6-foot-1, 232-pound tailback felt he didn't fit in the system of Coach Steve Kragthorpe.

Allen scored seven touchdowns this season on 146 attempts for 696 yards.

He established a single-game school rushing record Sept. 6 with 275 yards against Middle Tennessee.

He was given a release under the stipulation he would not transfer to Arkansas, which hired former Louisville coach Bobby Petrino away from the Atlanta Falcons earlier this week.

"If that should change, the family will appeal the decision to block the transfer," Allen's father, Amos, told the newspaper. "Anthony is a power back, not a speed back. There were a lot of passes to speedy backs out of the backfield, so we didn't think it would be good for us to stay around."

Allen has not indicated where he will transfer.
