PHOENIX, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks Friday acquired pitcher Dan Haren as part of an eight-player deal with the Oakland Athletics.
Haren was named to the AL All-Star team in 2007, when he went 15-9 with a 3.07 ERA, 194 strikeouts and just 55 walks in 222 2/3 innings.
He won a major league-best 10 straight games from April 18-July 1 and likely will be Arizona's No. 2 starter in 2008 behind Brandon Webb, last season's National League Cy Young Award winner.
The Diamondbacks also got right-hander Connor Robertson, while the A's get three top prospects -- outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, left-hander Brett Anderson and newly acquired first baseman Chris Carter -- along with left-handers Dana Eveland and Greg Smith and outfielder Aaron Cunningham.
In a separate move, Arizona dealt record-setting closer Jose Valverde to Houston for pitcher Chad Qualls, infielder-outfielder Chris Burke and pitcher Juan Gutierrez.
Valverde led the majors in 2007 with 47 saves.
