Detroit had a seven-game winning streak halted, but the Red Wings have still managed at least a point in 11 of their last 12 contests.
Detroit tied the game with 2:40 left in regulation when Henrik Zetterberg carried the puck from behind the net and fired a shot that struck defenseman Tom Gilbert and deflected over Roloson.
It was Detroit's third home loss in 16 games. Edmonton improved to 9-2 in shootouts this season.
