NEW YORK, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Third baseman Alex Rodriguez has signed his new 10-year contract with the New York Yankees, the team announced Thursday.
The deal is believed to be worth $275 million with additional incentives, including clauses regarding a potential chase of the all-time home run record, the New York Daily News said.
Rodriguez signed a 10-year, $252 million deal with the Texas Rangers in 2000. The Rangers traded Rodriguez to the Yankees in 2004. Rodriguez utilized an opt-out clause of the contract after the 2007 season, which led to the agreement that was concluded Thursday.
Rodriguez, 32, hit 54 home runs, drove in 156 runs and batted .314 in 2007, earning his third MVP award. He has 518 career home runs --17th on the all-time home run list -- 1,503 runs batted in and a .306 average in 14 seasons with the Yankees, Rangers and Seattle Mariners.
