Thursday, December 10
WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Mike Green scored on an odd-man rush with 1:19 left in overtime Wednesday, lifting Washington to a 5-4 win over the New York Rangers.
The Capitals won for the fourth time in five games and improved to 6-3-1 since Bruce Boudreau was brought up from the team's Hershey farm team to be head coach.
Joe Motzko scored twice for Washington, while Green, Brooks Laich and Donald Brashear each had two assists. Olaf Kolzig made 19 saves.
Despite the loss, the Rangers earned at least a point for the eighth time in their last nine road games. New York's Henrik Lundqvist allowed five goals on 35 shots after blanking New Jersey in his previous outing.
The Capitals defeated the Rangers for only the second time in eight tries.
