NHL: Columbus 4, Colorado 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Jared Boll's second-period goal put Columbus ahead for good Wednesday and Fredrik Norrena had to make only 16 saves in the Blue Jackets' 4-1 win over Colorado.

Boll scored with 8:28 left in the second period, giving Columbus a 2-1 advantage en route to its first victory in three games. Manny Malhotra, Kris Beech and Sergei Fedorov also scored for the Blue Jackets.

Colorado, which had won its two previous games, got its only goal from Ben Guite, who tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period.

Boll took a drop pass from Curtis Glencross and rifled a low shot that deflected off the shin of Colorado defenseman Scott Hannan past Jose Theodore. That wound up being the only shot Columbus took in the second period.

It was the 450th victory for Columbus Coach Ken Hitchcock and it came in the 850th game of his career. Hitchcock has also coached in Philadelphia and Dallas, where he won a Stanley Cup.
