NHL: Colorado 9, St. Louis 5

DENVER, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Milan Hejduk erupted for three goals and three assists Sunday to help the Colorado Avalanche beat St. Louis 9-5.

Hejduk's first hat trick of the season ran his goal total to 13, and his six-point game was a career-high.

Colorado's Paul Stastny had two goals and three assists, while Ryan Smyth had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche, who have won their last two games.

It was the 1,000th victory in the history of the Colorado franchise dating back to when the Avalanche were the Quebec Nordiques.

St. Louis got two goals from Jay McClement, and David Perron and Lee Stempniak had a goal and an assist apiece.

Doug Weight scored once, but goalies Hannu Toivonen and Marek Schwarz combined to yield nine goals on 29 shots for the Blues, who have lost three of their last five contests.

Colorado went 3 for 6 on the power play while St. Louis went 1 for 3.
