ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Mike Sillinger's overtime goal Saturday gave the New York Islanders a 3-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It was Sillinger's sixth goal of the season.

Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie after Tampa Bay's Brad Richards scored his ninth and 10th goals. New York's Bill Guerin and Andy Hilbert scored once each in the second.

Richards created the tie at 13:39 of the third.

Goaltender Rick DiPietro stopped 29 of 31 shots for the Islanders, who broke a five-game winless streak (0-4-1).

Goalie Johan Holmqvist was beaten three times on 33 shots for the Lightning, who failed in their attempt to complete a four-game home stand unbeaten.

On the power play in the penalty-filled game, Tampa Bay went 2 for 7, while New York went 0 for 8.
