Schiano will stay at Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Greg Schiano has spoken with officials at Michigan about its vacant head football coach post but decided to stay at Rutgers, where he holds a similar position.

"I was contacted earlier this week about the Michigan coaching vacancy, but I have decided to remove my name from consideration," Schiano said in a statement released by the university.

"I look forward to our third straight bowl game and to bringing a national championship to Rutgers and the state of New Jersey. I haven't spoken to anybody about any job and that's where I'm going to leave it. I will have no further comment."

The Scarlet Knights (7-5) face Ball State at the International Bowl Jan. 6 in Toronto.

Michigan is trying to replace Lloyd Carr, who retired Nov. 19 after a 10-9 loss to archrival Ohio State ended an 8-4 regular season.
