NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said Friday running back Reggie Bush had torn the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Payton said, however, he hoped Bush could play again this season.

The New Orleans coach tried to downplay rumors he might take the vacant head coaching job at the University of Michigan, although he did not completely end the speculation.

Bush is listed as questionable for Monday's game against Atlanta.

"He has soreness and swelling in the knee," Payton said. "(Thursday) he was able to practice on it and he will be a game time decision, and we will continue to monitor where he is at in his progress with rehab.

"I think that (the possibility Bush might be out for the season) is a little premature," said Payton. "I am still hopeful for this weekend's game."

As to the reports that he might become the new Michigan coach, Payton said:

"There really isn't anything there. The job I have here is fantastic and it is the job I want. I am extremely excited to be the head coach of the New Orleans Saints and I will leave it at that."
