PROVO, Utah, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Sam Burgess helped ignite a 16-5 run late in the first half Wednesday that vaulted No. 22 Brigham Young to a 72-57 win over Weber State.

Burgess scored 16 points, and both Trent Plaisted and Lee Cummard had 14 for BYU (7-1). The Cougars' lone loss came against top-ranked North Carolina.

Weber State (2-5) was paced by Trevor Morris with 12.

BYU had only a 10-point lead late in the first half before Burgess touched off a surge with one of his three three-point shots. The Cougars finished the half with a 42-21 cushion, after which the Wildcats came no closer than their 15-point, final deficit.

The Cougars have won 35 straight home games.
