Dolphins place Zach Thomas on IR

DAVIE, Fla., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The 2007 season is over for Miami Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas, who has been placed on injured reserve because of persistent migraine headaches.

The problem began when the 11-year veteran suffered a concussion in a car accident Oct. 21 following the Dolphins' game against New England.

The 34-year-old Thomas missed the last five games and had not been cleared by team doctors.

"I'm disappointed with the decision to place me on injured reserve," Thomas said in a statement. "I expected to come back this season and still think I can. However, I respect the team's decision and look forward to playing next year."

In five games this season, Thomas totaled 52 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.

The Dolphins also placed safety Cameron Worrell on IR, signed linebacker Kelvin Smith and offensive tackle Julius Wilson off the practice squad, and waived wide receiver Kerry Reed.

The winless Dolphins travel to Buffalo this Sunday.
