NEW YORK, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- No. 2 Memphis survived a scare from USC Tuesday with Antonio Anderson's layup giving the Tigers a four-point cushion en route to a 62-58 overtime victory.
Robert Dozier scored 13 points, Chris Douglas-Roberts had 10, and Derrick Rose contributed nine points and 10 rebounds for Memphis (7-0) in the Jimmy V Basketball Classic in New York.
It was the Southern California's second straight loss to a top-tier team, having fallen 59-55 to No. 3 Kansas Saturday.
Freshmen O.J. Mayo and Davon Jefferson led USC, with Mayo scoring a game-high 16 points, and Jefferson adding 12 points and 13 boards for the Trojans (6-3), who had won six straight prior to the back-to-back losses.
USC led 29-24 at halftime and held onto a five-point lead until just under eight minutes left in regulation when the Tigers went on an 8-0 spurt that put them up 49-46 with about 6 1/2 to go.
Daniel Hackett had a chance to put the Trojans ahead with 5.9 seconds left after hitting a free throw to make it 54-54 but missed his second attempt. Dozier then missed a shot from the corner at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.
