PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Ed Stefanski reportedly will take over as general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers, replacing Billy King.

Stefanski, who played at Penn, was in his ninth season as general manager for the New Jersey Nets. Before that he was president of Preferred Mortgages Corp. and worked for two decades as a TV basketball analyst.

A news conference was expected later Tuesday.

The Philadelphia Daily News, quoting sources, said Stefanski was surprised by the offer but was expected to sign a multiyear contract. King had been in the final season of his contract.

The Sixers are 5-12 on the season.
