RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- A federal judge in Richmond, Va., Friday sentenced two men who earlier pleaded guilty to charges in the Michael Vick dogfighting case.
Purnell Peace was sentenced to 18 months in prison and Quanis Phillips was given a jail term of 21 months by U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson.
Vick, who surrendered to authorities Nov. 19 to begin his prison term early, is to be sentenced Dec. 10. He could be sentenced to five years in prison, although his plea agreement has prosecutors asking for a prison term of 12-to-18 months.
The fourth man involved in the case, Tony Taylor, is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 14.
All four men pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges. Authorities said property Vick owned in Virginia was used to train dogs for fights. Some of the animals allegedly were killed if they didn't fight well enough.
Vick, a starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, was suspended by the NFL because of the allegations.
Vick and his co-defendants also face state charges in the case.
