PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick and James Blake gave the United States a 2-0 lead over Russia in the Davis Cup Final Friday at Portland, Ore.
Roddick dominated the opening match against Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Blake then defeated Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-3). Blake needed three hours and 28 minutes to dispose of the Russian.
The Americans can win the Davis Cup for the first time in 12 years Saturday when the top-ranked doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan faces Igor Andreev and Nikolay Davydenko.
Davydenko -- Russia's top-ranked player and No. 4 in the world -- was, surprisingly, held out of singles play. He has been the subject of a gambling investigation by global tennis officials.
The Bryans are 12-1 in Davis Cup matches.
Roddick recorded 25 aces and allowed Tursunov only one break chance during the entire match. Tursunov defeated Roddick in last year's Davis Cup semifinals, winning a five-setter on clay in Moscow.
