NHL: Buffalo 3, Washington 1

WASHINGTON, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Jochen Hecht scored two goals and set up another Monday as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Washington Capitals 3-1.

Jason Pominville also scored for the Sabres, who have won five straight. Ryan Miller stopped 30 shots to earn the win.

Alex Ovechkin had the only goal for Washington, which lost its first game under interim coach Bruce Boudreau (2-1-0). Olaf Kolzig yielded three goals on 28 shots.

Hecht put the Sabres ahead 1-0 with 9:05 remaining in the first period when he circled behind the goal and threw the puck into the crease. The puck pinballed off the skate of Washington defenseman John Erskine and into the net.
