GAINESVILLE, Fla., Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Record-setting University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow suffered a broken left hand in Saturday's 45-12 rout of archrival Florida State.
The Gainesville Sun reported the Heisman Trophy contender sustained a non-displaced fracture in his non-throwing hand during his 5-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the third quarter.
Coach Urban Meyer told the newspaper team doctors did some tests on the sideline, but Tebow stayed in the game after telling them he was OK.
Meyer said Tebow will wear a cast for two weeks, and should be ready for an expected bowl game.
Against the Seminoles, Tebow accounted for five touchdowns -- three passing and two running -- and gained 351 total yards.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound sophomore from Saint Augustine, Fla. is the first college quarterback ever to pass and run for 20 touchdowns each in the same season.
