SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum combined for a 3-under 69 Friday, giving the United States the lead after two rounds of the World Cup golf competition in China.
Weekley and Slocum are at 14-under-par 130, one stroke better than the English team of Justin Rose and Ian Poulter and Scots Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren. Both those teams shot 68 Friday. South Africans Retief Goosen and Trevor Immelman, who bogeyed the 18th hole, are in fourth at 12-under 132.
Defending champion Germany, fielding a team of Alex Cejka and Martin Kaymer, only managed a 1-under 71 Friday and is tied for fifth place with Denmark and Italy at 11-under 133.
Friday's round was foursomes and Rose and Poulter were able to charge to the lead at 14-under while the Americans bogeyed No. 12. But the English team dropped back with a bogey at 17.
Slocum, who reached the par-5 15th hole with the team's second shot, made a short birdie putt to move his team into the lead. Weekley's strong iron play gave Slocum several birdie changes but the Americans couldn't increase the lead.
