Allenby retains lead at MasterCard Masters

MELBOURNE, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Robert Allenby turned in a 4-under-par 68 Friday and had a 1-stroke lead after two rounds of the MasterCard Masters golf tournament in Australia.

Allenby did bogey the final hole of the second round but his 36-hole total of 9-under 135 was just better than Aaron Badderley's 8-under 134. Badderley shot 66 Friday.

Daniel Chopra, Rick Kulacz, Rory McIlroy, Terry Pilkadaris and Scott Strange were tied for third at 5-under 139.

Badderley teed off Friday well before Allenby and moved ahead of the first-round leader. But Allenby dropped a long eagle putt at the sixth hole to get close and caught Badderley with a birdie at No. 8.

Allenby took the outright lead with another birdie at the 10th hole. He pushed the lead to two strokes with a birdie at 17 but gave that back on his final hole of the day.

Badderley's round, which began on the back side Friday, sported eight birdies -- including three consecutive from holes 3-5 -- but he also bogeyed Nos. 18 and 1.
