
SAN JUAN, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Sonny Weems had 16 points and eight rebounds Sunday as 18th-ranked Arkansas topped Virginia Commonwealth, 70-60.
The victory secured a third place finish at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament in San Juan.
The Razorbacks opened the contest with a 24-9 spurt, but really never had complete control because of their 17 turnovers. They led, 34-24, at the half, but VC cut the lead to seven points a couple of times in the second half.
Patrick Beverley had 13 points and six rebounds. Gary Ervin had 12 points and five assists, and Darian Townes had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Razorbacks (3-1), who bounced back from a 67-51 loss to Providence in the semifinals.
VCU was led by Michael Anderson's 16 points and four rebounds.
Eric Maynor and Jamal Shuler scored 12 points apiece for the Rams (2-2), who have lost two in a row.
