Report: White Sox to trade Joe Crede

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Chicago White Sox third baseman Joe Crede likely will be traded before Opening Day next season, a report said.

The Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald reported Friday it was told by an unnamed major league executive the chance of the 29-year-old Crede being dealt is 95 percent.

The report added the team looks like it is through trying to get Crede's agent, Scott Boras, to talk about a deal beyond 2008 -- or get Crede to talk to the team on his own.

"On paper, you would have thought we had a very potent lineup last year," General Manager Ken Williams said Thursday. "We didn't, so now we look for reinforcements."

With the likelihood Crede's days with the White Sox are over, and Chicago's need for pitching, there is no shortage of possible replacements, including Florida third baseman Miguel Cabrera, second baseman Tony Abreau, outfielder Matt Kemp, outfielder James Loney, and reliever Jonathan Broxton, all with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Tampa Bay second baseman/outfielder Delwyn Young.
