Karlsson stands at 12-under 128 through 36 holes as he attempts to get his eighth tournament title on the tour.

"I understood exactly what I need to do to have a good score around this golf course and it is up to me to do it," the 6-foot-5 inch Swede told reporters after a round which helped him set a 36-hole record total. "So far I have done well -- for example, I used my driver only once today at the sixth."

His closest challenger is Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez (67) at 8-under 132.

A group of nine, including former Masters champion Mike Weir (64) and Simon Dyson (65) are tied for third place at 7-under 133.
