MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Nov. 15 (UPI) -- West Virginia quarterback Patrick White says a Louisville player spit in his face during WVU's 38-31 victory over the Cardinals last Thursday night.
He told the Charleston Daily Mail the incident occurred in the third quarter.
Both Louisville Coach Steve Kragthorpe and linebacker Preston Smith denied White's claim.
"Why would (Smith) want to admit doing it?" White asked. "It's just a vicious thing. I feel that spitting on somebody is the most vicious kind of disrespect that you can do. I know he spit on me. I don't take that back, and I don't appreciate it at all."
White got a measure of revenge by scoring a 50-yard run with 1:36 left to keep the sixth-ranked Mountaineers in the chase for the Big East title with their fourth straight win.
The loss eliminated Louisville from the Big East title picture.
