NHL: Tampa Bay 6, Carolina 1

TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Vincent Lecavalier recorded the fifth hat trick of his career and assisted twice Wednesday, carrying Tampa Bay past Carolina 6-1.

Lecavalier equaled a franchise record with four points in one period and he produced his sixth straight multi-point game, the first time that has happened in Lightning history.

Tampa Bay won its fourth straight after losing six in a row.

Martin St. Louis also had a goal and two assists and Johan Holmqvist made 26 saves.

Carolina had won four of its previous five, but John Grahame surrendered six goals on 28 shots.

After a scoreless first period, Tampa Bay scored five times in the second.

Paul Ranger opened the scoring at 1:27 off a feed from Lecavalier and Lecavalier scored unassisted three minutes later with a slap shot.

Lecavalier also scored the fourth goal of the second period and added a shorthanded one with 5:19 to play in the game.
